About Jamie Liddell, MSW, RSW

If you’ve found your way here, you might be going through a difficult season, feeling stuck, hurt or simply wondering if something in your life could feel a little different or easier. Whatever brought you here, you don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out.I’m Jamie Liddell, a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with more than 15 years of experience supporting people through mental health challenges, substance use, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and all the complicated stuff that comes with being human.Through secure virtual counselling in Ontario, I offer a compassionate, collaborative space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and explore what meaningful change might look like for you and help you make that change.Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with adults, youth, families, military members- people with diverse and intersecting identities and life experiences. These experiences have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling- and that feeling heard, understood, and respected matters.A big part of my professional work has focused on mental health and substance use health promotion. I’ve supported people who are thinking about changing their relationship with substances, people they care about, their emotions and thoughts. I also work as a consultant supporting the development and implementation of professional learning for clinical mental and substance use health practive with school boards across Ontario.Outside of my professional life, I’m a mom, dog mom, wife, daughter, niece, and cousin who grew up in a small farming community. I’m also a big believer in the things that help us stay grounded in our own lives. For me, that includes baking and sports, which continually challenge me to use—and sometimes practice—my own mental resiliency skills. At the heart of it, I’m here to help you slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, reconnect with what matters, and figure out where you want to go next. You don’t have to have all the answers. We can anchor into what matters to you and align with where you want to go.

Ways I can Help

There’s no single path to meaningful change. You might be navigating a difficult relationship, rethinking your relationship with substances, feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands, or wanting to build skills to help you move toward a personal goal.At Anchor & Align Counselling, we can work together to explore what matters to you, understand what might be getting in the way, and identify practical steps toward change that feels meaningful and sustainable

Substance Use Health

Whether you’re questioning your relationship with alcohol or other substances, considering a change, or looking for ways to reduce the harms associated with substance use, support is available without judgment.I work with people and their loved ones to explore concerns related to substance use, consider options for change, reduce potential harms, and work toward personally meaningful goals. You don’t have to be ready to make a big change to start a conversation.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

When you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from what matters most, it can be difficult to know where to begin.Together, we can explore what’s contributing to these feelings, make space for difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories, and develop practical ways to navigate life’s challenges. Our work can focus on understanding patterns, reconnecting with your values, and taking steps toward a more meaningful life.

Mental Resiliency Skill Building

Pressure, setbacks, and self-doubt can affect how we feel and perform. Building mental resiliency skills can help you navigate challenging moments, refocus your attention, and move toward your goals with greater confidence.Virtual individual sessions and virtual or in person sessions for sports or workplace teams may include goal setting, visualization, breathing strategies, and helpful self-talk. Together, we can explore practical strategies to manage stress, strengthen focus, and respond to pressure in ways that align with what matters to you.

Relationship Health

Relationships can be deeply meaningful—and complicated. Whether you’re navigating challenges with a partner, child, family member, or another important person in your life, patterns of conflict or disconnection can leave you feeling stuck.Together, we can explore the emotions, needs, and patterns that shape your relationships. We can work toward clearer communication, healthier boundaries, greater understanding, and more meaningful connection, while keeping your goals and the kind of relationships you want to build at the centre of our work.

Anchored in what matters

My approach

My approach is anchored in the values of compassion, authenticity, and collaboration. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and you don’t need to have a diagnosis—or even know exactly what’s wrong—to reach out. I work with people 16+ who may be navigating a difficult season, feeling stuck, trying to understand themselves or their relationships, or simply wanting something in their life to feel different. My practice is grounded in attachment theory and informed by trauma-informed and identity-affirming practice. I draw from evidence-informed approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, and Brainspotting. These approaches offer different tools, but the focus is always on finding what fits you, your experiences, your strengths, your values, and where you want to go.Therapy should feel like a space where you can be honest, understood, and respected. We’ll work together to make sense of what’s happening, build on what’s already working, and create meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
